When you talk about what you want to achieve, are they goals or dreams? If you’re not sure of the difference, here’s my definition:
Each year I choose a theme that helps me to focus on accomplishing more and reaching my goals. My themes are typically one or two words that sum up an area I need to work on during that year. Examples of themes might be “Productivity,” “Revenue,” “Visibility,” “Service,” “Health,” “Relationships,” etc.

As we come to the end of the year, everyone is thinking about making New Year’s resolutions. We often make a long list of resolutions, then give up on all of them by the end of January. There are lots of reasons that New Year’s resolutions fail. We take on too many changes at once, we get frustrated when we don’t see immediate results, we choose the wrong resolutions...and on and on.
People generally do not say to themselves, ‘At the end of next year, I want to be in exactly the same place I am today.’ Usually they hope that they will be in a better place—that might mean making more money, having more flexibility and freedom, or taking on a new career or business. However, many people find themselves doing the same things year after year because they do not plan to get the things they say that they want.
When people ask me how many hours I work in an average week, I have to say that I don’t know. First of all, there is no such thing as an “average” week. Beyond that, I don’t think about how many hours I spend working, because I love what I do. My work and my life are intertwined.
When you started your business, you were passionate about it. You couldn’t wait to get to work every day, and you loved sharing your vision with everyone who would listen.

We all fail at times. What sets successful people apart is not that they never fail, it is that they are able to bounce back after a failure and go on to the next thing.
We have all heard the advice not to give up, to persevere and keep trying until we succeed. But is that always a good idea?

Do you ever have “one of those days?” You know, when it seems like everything is going wrong, and you start to wonder whose karma you messed with? Lots of things can set off bad feelings--rejection, financial set backs, computer crashes, etc. Whatever the cause, you can get through it and get back on your feet.
Inspiration is a wonderful thing. But if you hear a story, read a book, watch a video, or listen to a speaker and get inspired, what do you do with the inspiration? So if every phone call, networking event, speech, media interview or public appearance is a chance to make a fool of yourself, why should you do it? Isn’t it better to play it safe and not risk failure and public embarrassment?
When you are busy, marketing may seem unimportant. Why do you need to look for customers when you have all the business you can handle? Because you won’t have those customers forever.
